Jurgen Klopp insists Lionel Messi’s arrival would further enhance the reputation of the Premier League, but admits the move seems unlikely.
FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is currently one of the few extremely loyal players in all of Europe.
Messi joined Barca’s youth setup La Masia at the age of 13 after signing his first contract on a piece of napkin.
He made rapid progress to rise through the ranks and made his first-team debut in 2003, aged 16, coming on as a substitute in a friendly match.
The Argentine sensation has since made over 700 appearances and scored a mouthwatering 634 goals across all competitions, winning 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, three Club World Cup, among countless other accolades in the process.
However, Messi’s status as a one-club-man is on the verge of getting tarnished as he has supposedly decided to end his almost two-decade relationship with Barcelona.
Premier League is considered as his most likely destination, though a certain Ligue 1 club have also reportedly registered interest in signing him.
And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is amused by the idea of seeing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner in English top-flight.
“For the Premier League it would be great, 100 percent,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Community Shield final against Arsenal [via Goal].
“Having, I think, the best player in the world come to the league would obviously help. I’m not sure the Premier League needs a boost, but it would be a boost.
“It would be interesting to see as well. Messi never played in another league than Spain. Football is different here, so I actually would like to see it. But I’m not sure if I will.”
