Ahead of the match against AFC Ajax, Jurgen Klopp confirmed one of his biggest stars picked up a fresh injury to add to the list of absentees.
Liverpool just extended its injury list with one of their most important players, as Jurgen Klopp confirmed earlier today. As the Reds were getting ready for the upcoming Champions League match against AFC Ajax, Alisson Becker has been ruled out.
The Brazilian goalkeeper picked up a muscular injury with Caoimhin Kelleher taking his place against the Dutch giants. Klopp confirmed a hamstring injury that will keep Alisson for the next couple of weeks before fully recovering.
This adds to an already long list of absentees from all competitions as an injury crisis strikes Liverpool the hardest out of all the European giants. The Reds had been the most active squad over the last couple of years and the pandemic struck them in an extremely negative manner.
Klopp confirmed Alisson doesn’t have Covid-19.
When the announcement was made through the club’s official website, the press initially believed the goalie could be infected with Covid-19. However, the manager quickly came out to confirm that he suffers a muscular injury.
“It is not Covid,” Klopp told the press. “That is something we have to mention when it is not the case, and it is not the case. He told us after the game [against Brighton] he felt his hamstring in the 60th or 70th minute.
“A little one but enough for today and probably for another week, we will have to wait and see. I have never heard of a hamstring that is only four or five days so it will be 10 to 14 days, I think.”
