Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has been crowned the 2019-20 Premier League Player of the Season.
Liverpool might have won the title with 18 points clear but Kevin De Bruyne was in a league of his own.
The Belgian midfielder finished the season with 20 assists and 13 goals to his name. That tally saw him with the best ever numbers for a midfielder. It also saw him equal Thierry Henry’s Premier League assist record in the process.
De Bruyne missed out on this season’s FWA award to Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson. But this time he was recognized with a well deserved individual award.
Asides Henderson, Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold were also in the running to win the award.
Other candidates included golden-boot winner Jamie Vardy, Burnley’s Nick Pope and Southampton’s Danny Ings.
It is the first time the Belgian gets his hands on the award. The 29 year-old missed out on the award during City’s title-winning seasons to Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk but has now finally won it.
It comes as some slight consolation for the De Bruyne after his side crashed out of the Champions League yesterday.
