Former Arsenal man Kevin Campbell commented on the ongoing transfer talks. It is a tough choice between Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar.
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell provided his opinion about Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar transfer saga. He chooses to bring the Atletico midfielder to Emirates. However, there is a possibility that Arsenal will buy both of them.
Gaffer Mikel Arteta hopes to see late transfers happening for the Premier League side before Monday’s deadline.
Arsenal successfully purchased Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes to add to their squad. Evidently, Arteta managed to make productive results in the transfer window.
Although, the club would like to see positive development prior to the end of the summer transfer season. Subsequently, several deals are on a stall for Arsenal.
Partey is one of them. For a long time, the Gunners eyed the Atletico midfielder as a potential target.
In addition, Arteta wants to buy Lyon playmaker Aouar. But, the France international is opting to move somewhere else.
Though, Campbell has other opinions about the whole situation.
The former Arsenal striker told the Chronicles of a Gooner podcast when quizzed on the recruitment plan that he would favor: “Partey all day long.
“If we secure that midfield defensively and the screen in front of the back four, I think we win a lot more games than we lose.
“But if you add Houssem Aouar, who’s a very good technically-gifted player, we still have a problem in the middle of the pitch defensively.
“For years we’ve been calling out for a [Patrick] Vieira or Gilberto-type guy in there who can do box to box and break things up.
“If we don’t rectify that issue it’s still going to remain, we might be a little bit better going forward but we still haven’t rectified that problem at the back and in midfield.
“I want both but if I had to pick one, it’s Thomas Partey.”
Arsenal plays Sheffield United at the home turf on the weekend. Arteta’s men lost to Liverpool on Monday this week. Although, the club managed to proceed further into the Carabao Cup beating the Merseyside in a penalty shootout.
