Following a tragic week, Mourinho’s men finally got something to smile about when they got back to winning ways on Sunday.

Harry Kane was thrilled to see Tottenham seal a “massively needed” victory over Aston Villa after an “embarrassing” week with two high-profile defeats.

Tottenham took to the pitch at Villa Park on the back of a 3-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb that brought an end to their European journey. Prior to the Europa League Round of 16 second-leg loss, they were beaten 2-1 in the north London derby in the Premier League.

Spurs ended their losing run with a 2-0 win, with Carlos Vinicius and Kane getting on the scoresheet in either halves.

Sunday’s win lifted Jose Mourinho’s side up to sixthย in the Premier League standings. Champions League qualification is once again insight as they are now just three points off the top-four.

“Massively [needed],” Kane told Sky Sports. “The last couple of games have not been good enough.

“We knew we had to bounce back. We didn’t want to go away with three losses before the international break.

“The boys put in a great shift and we deserved it. It was nice to get it back today – everyone fighting, putting their bodies on the line. That’s what we need to do for the rest of the season to give the top four a push.

“[The last week] was embarrassing for us.”
