The 244th Derby della Mole takes place on Saturday evening between local rivals Juventus and Torino at the Allianz Stadium.

Both sides have endured indifferent starts to their respective Serie A campaigns, with Juventus winning less than half of their nine games in fourth-place on 17 points. Only one victory, meanwhile, is all Torino got to show down in 18th.

The last time these teams met in Turin ended in a 4-1 win for the hosts. Goals from Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, Cristiano Ronaldo, and an own goal from Koffi Djidji settled the tie.

But while Torino’s torrid start has left them 11 points behind their local rivals, the Turin derby normally springs up a hot-headed affair. In fact, there has been an average of five yellow cards in the last five meetings.

Juventus Form & Stats

History certainly favors the Bianconeri in this one, having won 21 of their last 28 league encounters against Torino (D6 L1). Thier one and only defeat in this period came in April 2015 at Torino’s home ground. A late goal has also sprung up in the last 10 minutes for them across each of their last six meetings at the Allianz.

Although life under Andrea Pirlo has begun on an underwhelming note, having won just four times in the league (P9 D5). It’s left the club six points behind league leaders AC Milan in the standings. They’ve also dropped points against the likes of Crotone, Hellas Verona, and Benevento.

But the fact Juventus remain unbeaten, along with a morale-boosting 3-0 Champions League win over Dynamo Kyiv midweek, should leave them in a good place. No doubt the desire to win local bragging rights will also motivate the squad further.

The big question on Saturday will be on whether Pirlo sticks to a 3-5-2 formation, as he used against Dynamo Kyiv, or reverts to a 4-4-2.

Alvaro Morata, meanwhile, is suspended for the match after picking up a red card against Benevento last weekend. But with a big-game player in Ronaldo available, Juve should be confident in finding the back of the net.

  • Scored before half-time in their last seven games in all competitions.
  • BTTS before half-time in 44% of their nine league games.
  • Kept just one clean sheet in five of their last six league games despite boasting the joint-best defensive record on seven conceded goals.
  • Scored more goals in the first half in 44% of their nine league games.
  • Exactly two goals scored in five of their nine league games.
  • Won five of their last 10 games against Torino by two or more goals.
  • 8 corners per league game on average.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo has provided three goals and one assist in four league games against Torino.
  • Leonardo Bonucci has picked up two yellow cards in his last three games against Torino.

Torino Form & Stats

The stats don’t make a great read for the Granata, having equaled their worst start in Serie A history since the three-points-per-win era began with a mere six points from nine games (W1 D3 L5). It’s left them in the relegation zone and two points from safety.

An early goal on Saturday will be key if Torino are to spring a surprise result. They’ll pin their hopes on Andrea Belotti, who has broken the deadlock in three games and scored seven goals this season. If the striker scores, he’ll surpass Adolfo Baloncieri as the club’s eighth-highest goalscorer in history on 100 goals.

Belotti has also supplied two assists, meaning he has contributed 56% of Torino’s 16 goals. But the club’s tally of 22 conceded goals is the worst in the league, which could lead to trouble against the free-scoring Ronaldo. They’ve also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 15 away league games.

It doesn’t make a great outlook for under-fire boss Marco Giampaolo, who desperately needs a result from the Turin derby.

Key Team Stats

  • Have scored in both halves in 56% of their nine league games.
  • Failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 15 away games in all competitions.
  • Andrea Belotti has scored the first goal three times this season.
  • The league’s worst defensive record on 22 conceded goals.
  • 7.75 corners per game in all competitions.
  • Ola Aina has picked up two yellow cards in his last three games against Juventus.
