Federico Chiesa will not play again for the Bianconeri this season after a knee injury.
Federico Chiesa suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Juventus’ 4-3 win over Roma two weeks ago. A few Italian sources had suggested the winger might return at the final stages of the current season. However, on Sunday, the club confirmed the Azzurri star will remain out of action for around seven months.
“This afternoon, Federico Chiesa underwent surgery to reconstruct the ACL in his left knee,” the club’s statement reads.
“The operation, performed at the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck by Professor Christian Fink and in the presence of Juventus’ Dr Stefanini, proved to be a perfect success.
“The expected recovery time is approximately seven months.”
Chiesa will most likely remain on the sidelines until the early stages of the next season. This will be a huge blow to Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who are pushing to secure a top-four finish in Serie A. The club are yet to make a serious move for a replacement in the current transfer window.
With the 2022 World Cup starting in November, the 24-year-old star would have enough time to gain full fitness before the games. However, the Azzurri will also have to deal with Chiesa’s absence during their upcoming playoffs.
The European Champions will face North Macedonia in their first game. In case they win the game, the Azzurri will then meet the winner of the tie between Portugal and Turkey for a place in Qatar.
