Juventus’ first-team squad has been placed under isolation after detecting a positive Coronavirus case within their work group.

The Bianconeri have officially announced that the group is under isolation after a positive Covid-19 case surfaced during one of their mandatory routine checks. The player to have contracted the virus is Hamza Rafia, a 22-year-old midfielder who recently joined the first-team squad. In fact, the Tunisian athlete has only completed one appearance for Juventus since joining the club in 2019. Rafia has mainly been playing for the Bianconeri’s Under 23 squad.

“Juventus Football Club announces that, during the checks provided for by the protocol in force, the positivity to Covid 19 of the player Hamza Rafia emerged,” the club stated.

“In compliance with the legislation and in agreement with the local health authority, the team group enters into fiduciary isolation from today. This procedure will allow all subjects negative to the controls to carry out regular training and match activities, but will not allow contact with the outside of the group.”

Juventus’ schedule may suffer the consequences.

‘La Vecchia Signora’ is scheduled to play against Serie B side Monza for the 25th edition of the Luigi Berlusconi Trophy. Cristiano Ronaldo was expected to make his first appearance for Juve this Saturday. However, the squad’s situation will likely mean the game will be canceled.

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri have carried on their usual training schedule. In fact, the squad stepped onto the pitch for their morning activities in a good mood.

Juventus have an upcoming fixture against Barcelona in just ten days. Therefore, the match fits right around the time their mandatory isolation may be lifted. Fans have been eager to witness another chapter in the Ronaldo vs Messi story. Therefore, they’ll be hoping that Juventus can stick to the plan. Moreover, Ronaldo and his teammates are scheduled for league action on August 22nd. This gives Allegri and his squad plenty of time to recover from this unfortunate setback.
