Matthijs de Ligt might leave Juventus if they miss out on the next year’s Champions League.

Since joining Juventus from Ajax in 2019, Matthijs de Ligt has established himself as a key player at Juventus. The centre-back moved to Turin on an €85.5m deal, but he might secure another big-money move in the near future.

Juventus’ struggles this season has generated serious doubts about De Ligt’s future. According to several reports, missing out on the next year’s Champions League will persuade the Dutchman to move away.

In a new interview with Dutch outlet NRC, De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola has spoken about his future.

“[De Ligt] is ready for a new step…he thinks that too,” the agent said.

De Ligt’s contract at the Allianz Stadium runs until 2024, giving Juventus enough room to ask a sizeable transfer fee. Several European clubs might revive their interest in De Ligt if he would be available next summer.

Earlier this month, Raiola confirmed Bayern Munich were close to signing the Netherlands international back in 2019.

He told Sport1 (via Fabrizio Romano): “Do you actually know that we almost brought de Ligt to Munich?

For Matthijs to FC Bayern we were in very good talks, it was a serious possibility [in the past]. It’s a shame it didn’t work out in the end”.
