The defending champions got the job done rather unconvincingly, stumbling over the line to snatch all three points from Sassuolo.

A much entertaining affair from start to end was witnessed when Juventus clashed against Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium.

Andrea Pirlo’s men were able to grab a win but they had to work hard for the 3-1 result as the opposition, despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the match, showed persistence and intention.

The first half went scoreless and a red card given to Pedro Obiang just before the break was the highlight of the opening 45 minutes.

Danilo broke the deadlock at the 50-minute mark with a spectacular hit, smashing the ball into the bottom left corner from well outside the box.

Juve’s lead, however, did not last long as Gregoire Defrel, who was playing his 100th match for Sassuolo, equalized with a neat finish.

The Bianconeri huffed and puffed but struggled to score despite their advantage, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Dejan Kulusevski both guilty of missing good chances.

It took until the final eight minutes and the introduction of Aaron Ramsey for the champions to regain the lead. Ramsey, after receiving a cross from Gianluca Frabotta, poked home after finding himself free in the box.

Ronaldo was having a frustrating night but managed to get on the scoreline in the dying minutes of the game. The Portuguese used pace to outrun his markers before sending a low shot into the net.
