Inter defeated Juventus 1-0 in their Serie A game on Sunday. The Nerazzurri maintained their three-point gap to league leaders AC Milan while Juventus failed to climb to the third spot.

Inter suffered two disappointing draws against Torino and Fiorentina before the international break. The importance of the derby game for Juventus and Inter forced both sides to take a conservative approach to the game.
Juventus were relatively dominant throughout the first half, but it was the guests who found the opener at the perfect time. Following a foul on Denzel Dumfries, the referee awarded Inter a penalty in the 43rd minute.
Hakan Calhanoglu missed the spot-kick, but upon reviewing the scene by VAR, he was given a second chance to put Inter ahead. This time, the Turkey international converted the penalty to win the lead for Simone Inzaghi’s side in the dying minutes of the first half.
Juventus pushed hard to get back into the game after the interval. However, they were not able to score the equalizer, with Inter bagging another victory on their challenging road to defend the Scudetto title.
What’s next for Juventus and Inter?
Juventus could have gone level on points with Inter if they managed to win the game. Now, they drift four points behind the Nerazzurri, with the task of sneaking back into the title race seeming highly unlikely.
On the other hand, Inter returned to winning ways by claiming their first Derby d’Italia win in Turin since 2012. The Nerazzurri will host Verona next weekend while Juventus face Cagliari.
