The Reds moved to within one point of the Premier League leaders after a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes the key for his side to maintain their title charge is to ignore Manchester City.

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino were on target to help Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 on Wednesday, allowing the club to close the gap to City to a single point in the Premier League table.

The significance of the victory didn’t escape the players, especially after City lost points in a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday. The two sides will meet next month for a match at the Etihad. The outcome could very well play a defining role in the title battle.

‘I really don’t think a lot about City’

Speaking to Sky Sports later at the Emirates Stadium, however, Klopp insisted he wasn’t thinking too much about Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I really don’t think a lot about City, that is the truth,” said the Reds boss.

“I know the only chance we have is to win an insane amount of football games because our opponents win an incredible amount of football games.

“The last few years, we have pushed each other to insane levels. It makes each game harder, you can enjoy that but you need to be ready for the intensity.

“I don’t think it is a problem for a human being every three days to be focused on what you do, but then comes in the physical part. We don’t fight City, we play City in three or four weeks and we will give them a proper fight then but apart from that we are in a good moment, in a good mood but we know the only way we can do it is to dig really deep.”

What next for Liverpool?

Klopp’s side will take a break from the title race this weekend to visit Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup quarter-final clash. They are heavy favorites to overcome the Championship club and progress to the last four. Bet365 has a Reds win priced at 1.25, at the time of writing, which equates to an 80% chance of victory.
