At the end of his contract this summer, Divock Origi will leave the club after a memorable eight-year spell.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Divock Origi will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old striker’s contract ends on June 30 and, as he has not played enough matches to trigger an extension, he can leave Anfield as a free agent once the transfer window reopens.

Serie A leaders AC Milan are the reported favorites to sign Origi for next season.

“I expect Div to get a special reception, or farewell, or whatever,” said Klopp during a pre-match press conference on Friday for this weekend’s game against Wolves.

“He is, and will be for me, forever a Liverpool legend [and] one of the most important players I ever had. That sounds completely strange with the amount of games he had, but it is, and was, a pure joy to work together with him.”

Klopp added: “I remember so many things when I think about Div that’s incredible — important goals, injuries… bad injuries, and all these kinds of things — ups and downs. He is a Liverpool legend, no doubt.”

What is Origi’s record for the Reds?

In 175 games across all competitions, Origi has supplied 41 goals and 18 assists at Liverpool.

The Belgium international joined the club in 2014 for €12.6 million from LOSC Lille. He shortly rejoined the French club on loan for the 2014/15 campaign and later had a spell on loan at German side Wolfsburg in 2017/18.

That said, while Origi has been a bit-part player for most of his time at Anfield, the striker has scored some vital goals.

He bagged a brace during the Reds’ famous comeback win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 and scored in the final against Tottenham that year to help the club win a sixth European Cup.

Origi will hope to score another famous goal in his Anfield farewell on Sunday as Liverpool take on Wolves. If Klopp’s side win, and Manchester City draw or lose to Aston Villa, they will become Premier League champions.
