A former Reds player is overly impressed by the Portuguese winger who has been in fine form ever since his summer switch to Anfield.

Diogo Jota was on target in Liverpool’s 3-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old’s strike saw him script history as he became the first Liverpool player to score in each of his first four home matches for the club.

The former Wolves man, who arrived at Anfield in September for a reported €50 million, upped his tally to an impressive eight goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for the Reds.

Jota was expected to remain a back-up to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane but he is increasingly making his case for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s line-up.

A former Liverpool midfielder has heaped praise on the Portuguese winger for quickly adapting to his new environment.

“Diogo Jota, talk about hitting the ground running,” Danny Murphy said on the BBC’s latest Match of the Day episode.

“He mixes his game up well, dropping deep, linking up the play. And what I like about him is the amount of runs he makes off the ball, which is what all good players do.

“And it’s also the fact of his bravery to go and find spaces, wait, and the intensity of his runs.

“He keeps getting in there, he’s a brilliant option, another source of goals for Liverpool and he deserves credit for how he’s adapted. For any defender picking him up, it must be a nightmare.”
