Jose Mourinho revealed the unusual size of the goalposts following Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Schkendija in the Europa League qualifiers.

Jose Mourinho made a strange discovery after Tottenham’s win over Shkendija. Spurs advanced to the play-offs of the Europa League on Thursday night. Although, the fans had a scare after the North Macedonians scored a screamer to equalize.

The goal scored by Valmir Nafiu required every inch of the goal frame. Fortunately, this mistake was corrected by the officials before the game started per talkSPORT.

Immediately after the game, Mourinho attended a press conference. The Portuguese told the media that the goalposts did not match the original size. Spurs informed UEFA and the organization made the corrections required.

He said: “Before the game was a funny situation because my goalkeeper told me the goal was small.

“I went to see and it was small.

“The goalkeepers spend all their time in them so we know.

“I felt immediately something was wrong and we got the UEFA delegate to come in and it was 5cm too small. We asked for the goals of the right dimensions.”

What happened?

As it turns out, UEFA extended the goalposts by 5cm in height. On the other hand, Shkendija had no idea about this incident. The club borrowed the Tose Proeski Arena for their match against Spurs.

However, it is hard to believe that Joe Hart conceded a goal. He stopped famous efforts such as Peter Crouch volley. Also, the English goalkeeper managed to block bicycle kicks from Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Although, Hart was left speechless due to Nafiu’s amazing strike. The only thing he could do was not talk about the small-size goal posts.

Heung-min Son scored on the 70th minute to put Tottenham ahead. Consequently, he assisted the substitute, Harry Kane, seven minutes later. Mourinho was sure about his star striker who led Spurs to victory.

Nevertheless, Tottenham will play against Maccabi Haifa in the playoff round. If they win the game, they will join Arsenal and Leicester in the group stage draw.
