The Italian midfielder’s future at Emirates is uncertain as he spends the final months of his current contract.

Jorginho’s contract negotiations with Arsenal are at a “standstill”, admits the Italian star’s agent.

Arsenal signed Jorginho from Chelsea last January, with the midfielder being one of Mikel Arteta’s primary midfield targets. The Italy international has maintained his place in Arteta’s plans despite growing competition in Arsenal’s squad. However, reports about his possible return to Italy have intensified in recent weeks.

Asked about Jorginho’s talks with the club, Joao Santos admitted his client’s future is still uncertain.

“Everything is at a standstill,” the agent said. “We’ll think about it after February. However, the priority remains Arsenal.”

Arsenal have a clause in Jorginho’s contract that allows them to extend his deal for another year at the end of the season. However, reports from the Italian media claim the veteran midfielder could end his spell in the Premier League in the summer.

“I’m very much in doubt, I would like to return, but I don’t know when the right time would be,” Jorginho told reporters about a possible move back to Italy last week.

He added: “I want to return yes, but I don’t know when, I feel I still have things to do at Arsenal. It always takes time when you change teams, but the first six months at Arsenal were not negative, on the contrary.”
