Chelsea legend John Terry believes Frank Lampard deserves credit for the club’s recent success, especially regarding two young stars.

Mason Mount and Reece James’ successes at Chelsea were down to Frank Lampard, says John Terry.

The two youngsters, products of the club’s youth system, were part of the changes installed when Lampard replaced Maurizio Sarri as head coach in the summer of 2019.

Since making breaking into the first team, Mount and James haven’t looked back. They’re now vital members of the Blues squad and continue to impress under Lampard’s replacement, Thomas Tuchel.

Now Terry has paid tribute to work accomplished by his former teammate ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League final against Manchester City next week.

‘It’s very disappointing what’s happened to Frank,” the former Blues skipper told The Times.

“The respect he has for Thomas and reaching out to him is Lamps all over.

“As a Chelsea man, I naturally want Chelsea to win the Champions League. Frank was a big part of that.

“The group he had was incredible. Look at Mason and Reece James and where they are, that was down to Frank. Thomas has thanked Frank for that.”

As Terry said, Tuchel has publicly acknowledged Lampard’s impact for ‘laying the foundations’ towards the club’s recent success.

The Blues legend is currently the odds-on favorite to replace Roy Hodgson as Crystal Palace manager for next season.
