During a recent interview, one of Johan Cruyff’s greatest pupils revealed the late manager would’ve picked Kylian Mbappe over Haaland.

Someone very close to Johan Cruyff during his days at FC Barcelona thinks he would’ve picked Kylian Mbappe over Erling Haaland. Despite the club’s financial situation, there’s a general feeling that they can have the luxury of picking between the two stars. For some strange reason, they believe Joan Laporta has the connections to make one of both transfers happen during the next transfer window.

Hristo Stoichkov is one of those people, he ignores the situation to an alarming level and fuels this idea. Regardless of how terrible the situation is in Barcelona, they think they can get away with any transfer they want. In order to sign Mbappe or Haaland, first they need to sell some of the players they paid a lot of money for. It sure sound like we are on the verge of a complete squad renovation at FC Barcelona.

Who would Cruyff pick?

In a recent interview with Goal, Hristo Stoichkov was questioned about the late great Johan Cruyff and what he would do. The Bulgarian former player stated that his former manager would pick the French forward without question. There’s only one problem with this: Mbappe wants to play for Real Madrid and no other club. “With two or three signings you can make a very competitive team,” he told Goal.

“You need a left-back because Alba is going to be killed, and I would sign Alaba because he can play you in three different positions and very well in all three. And then a Haaland or a Mbappe. I think that with Barcelona’s system, Haaland can be more effective. But if the coach were Cruyff, I already can tell you that I would sign Mbappe first. He would play without a number nine and he would play with [Ousmane] Dembele and Mbappe and [Lionel] Messi organizing.”
