The Portuguese star failed to live up to expectations after his blockbuster move to Madrid.

Former Spain goalkeeper Santi Canizares has criticized Joao Felix for his attitude at Atletico Madrid.

Felix arrived at Atletico for a club-record fee of €126m in 2019. He went on to register 34 goals and 18 assists in his 131 appearances during his time in Madrid.

However, his struggle for form under Diego Simeone convinced Atletico to send him on a six-month loan deal to Chelsea. Felix finds a chance to prove his qualities in the Premier League, but Canizares believes the 23-year-old should “change his personality” to fulfil his potential.

“The club is not to blame for anything about Joao Felix,” Canizares told Radio Marca.

“On the contrary – they placed a trust in him that perhaps he did not deserve, he was hired for a fortune. He has talent, but he has to change his personality.

“He is the most affected because the club paid an amount that perhaps was for more established players. When he has not seen himself starting, he has turned his nose up; when he has seen that he is not the leader of the team, he has not taken a step forward.”

In addition to Felix, Chelsea have signed David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Andrey Santos this winter.

Let’s see if the Portuguese forward can help Chelsea bounce back from their recent dip in form that has left them stranded in the tenth spot on the Premier League table.
