As the winter transfer window approaches, Joan Laporta has revealed a plan that Barcelona have drawn up to make a crucial signing.
Barcelona will attempt to mimic their 2004 acquisition of Edgar Davids in January, according to Joan Laporta.
The Barcelona president was at the helm when the club signed Davids on loan from Juventus in January 2004. The midfielder’s impact was immense. His contribution led to a remarkable turnaround, as Barca went from a struggling mid-table team to a runners-up finish in the 2003/04 LaLiga.
Now, as an injured Gavi is set to miss the rest of the current campaign, Laporta plans to repeat the same trick twice.
“If we manage to make the fair play work [with LaLiga], the idea is to have another midfielder to compensate for the loss of Gavi,” the Barca chief said to EFE.
“It would be a loan until the end of the season, like we did years ago with Edgar Davids, for example. I think before the end of the year we can create the space for a couple of deals we are working on.”
Barcelona will be back in action on Wednesday at home to Almeria in their next LaLiga match.
The Blaugrana are on a three-game winless run going into this contest. They also lie nine points behind LaLiga leaders Girona in third.
