It happened earlier on Thursday at a restaurant in Barcelona, Joan Laporta met with Ronald Koeman to discuss his future.
Ronald Koeman’s future is currently in the air with Joan Laporta having the last decision, they met in Barcelona earlier today. At around noon today, both men plus Rafa Yuste (Barcelona’s vice chairman) met at Via Veneto restaurant in the city. The meeting extended until 4 pm local time and they met tons of press members when they left the premises.
Sport reports that the purpose of this meeting was for Ronald Koeman to explain what happened over the last couple of weeks. FC Barcelona had a massive chance to fight for the title and it all fell apart in a matter of two games. The Blaugranas have repeatedly bottled opportunities to get at the top but they never seemed ready to take the chance. Consecutive draws against Atletico Madrid and Levante were the final straw in Barcelona’s options for the title. Today, Laporta demanded answers from the Dutch manager.
Will Koeman still stay at the club?
As far as we know, Ronald Koeman’s position at the club remains unknown until the end of the season. Even though today’s meeting seemed amicable, there are still rumors about other managers taking his place after the end of the season. However, there are two major factors that play in Koeman’s favor. First of all, winning the Copa del Rey in his first season is regarded as a success.
The other aspect to consider is Barcelona’s lack of money to pay Ronald Koeman out of his position. They still haven’t paid Quique Setien’s money in full and dismissing the Dutchman means they also have to give him a severance. In plain terms, the Blaugranas have few options to move forward. They might be stuck with what they have until they find an ideal sponsor who can help them on the financial front.
