After Manchester United confirmed his positive diagnosis, Jesse Lingard assured supporters of his well-being.

Jesse Lingard took to social media to assure fans he feels ‘fine’ after testing positive for COVID-19.

Manchester United released a statement on Saturday to confirm the England international’s absence from a friendly against Everton as he self-isolates following a positive result from a COVID-19 test.

“Jesse Lingard is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19,” the club confirmed in a pre-match statement. “He is isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines.”

The news has left Lingard ‘gutted’. The midfielder has reignited his career following a successful loan spell at West Ham last term and featured regularly for United across pre-season.

But he appears to be asymptomatic and is already awaiting his return to the squad.

“[I’m] really gutted to have tested positive after a good pre-season,” he posted on Twitter.

“Luckily, I feel fine and will follow the guidelines and be back with the boys on [the] pitch very soon! Thank you for your support.”

When could Lingard return?

As per the UK Government guidelines, Lingard will need to self-isolate for at least 10 full days.

The 28-year-old, therefore, might have to wait until August 17 to report back to United. Should this be the case, he will miss the club’s Premier League opener against Leeds United on August 14.

But Lingard could be available for the second game of the new season away to Southampton on August 22.
