Let’s take a look at the player ratings from the Group C FIFA Women’s World Cup match at the Wellington Regional Stadium.

Japan and Spain met on Monday for a top-of-the-table clash in their final Group C match.

Both sides entered the contest level on six points after two games. Qualification into the last-16 was already secure, now it was a matter of deciding which team would clinch the all-important top spot. Spain were ahead on goal difference, but Japan ultimately emerged as the Group C winners.

Despite being billed as the pre-match underdogs, Japan made quick work of Spain. They stormed into a three-goal lead in the first half. Hinata Miyazawa was the star of the show. She broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, with a cool one-on-one finish. She later set up Riko Ueki for the second goal, before scoring the team’s third in the 40th minute.

Spain tried to get back in the second half, but couldn’t find a way through. They dominated possession and had the most shots, yet ended up conceding again when Mina Tanaka scored to kill the game off.
