Despite today’s loss, Everton’s James Rodriguez sent a heartfelt message to Carlo Ancelotti for believing in him when Zidane didn’t.

Even though James Rodriguez wasn’t able to help Everton against Manchester United tonight, he still wanted to thank Carlo Ancelotti in public. The Italian manager has always been in the Colombian player’s favor since he saw the performances he delivered during the 2014 World Cup. Back then, Carlo was Real Madrid’s manager and he was fresh out of winning the UEFA Champions League with the club. He had enough credit to ask for any player he wanted and his gut told him to opt for James.

Ever since that happened, the Everton gaffer has always trusted his player and brought him to play for the Toffees. This is a gesture that James will never forget, especially during a difficult time in his career. Under Zinedine Zidane, Rodriguez was never able to reach his full potential as a playmaker. When he went to play at Bayern Munich, he didn’t improve much and returned to Real Madrid after his loan. At this point, it seemed like Carlo was the only person who understood him.

James will always be grateful to Ancelotti

Even though he didn’t play a great game against Manchester United, James still thinks the world of what Carlo Ancelotti is trying to accomplish. The Colombian player gave an interview to BT Sport about his time at the Toffees and his relationship with Carlo. He also took a small dig at Zidane for not trusting him.

“Both Everton and Carlo trusted me when no other club did. I will always remain grateful to the club and to Carlo. This is why I try to give my best in every match, that’s the reason I always try to play at my highest level. This is what I want to do for the club. Carlo is a very quiet person, he knows how to treat the players and how to get the best out of us. That’s the reason he’s worked with all those big clubs and with this new project. We hope he does everything possible in order to achieve great things.”
