The Manchester United star celebrated his latest goal by showing off a shinpad featuring a picture of his face.
Jadon Sancho has revealed the meaning behind his shinpad celebration after scoring his latest Manchester United goal.
The 22-year-old opened the scoring for the Red Devils in their 2-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League. He then whipped off one of his shinpads and showed it to the crowd with a thumbs up.
Speaking after the game, Sancho revealed the celebration was a tribute to one of his fans.
“A little kid gave me some shinpads and asked me to wear them,” Sancho said.
“I said ‘Yeah, no problem’ and that was a little gesture from me when I scored, showing him that I was wearing his shinpads that he gave me.”
Sancho registered his third goal of the season against the Moldovan side. However, his newly-found form has not convinced Gareth Southgate to include him in his latest England squad.
“That [the World Cup] is one of the targets, but it is unfortunate that I didn’t get the call-up,” Sancho told MUTV.
“But I have to keep focusing on myself and keep working hard, week in and week out. So that is what I am going to do.“
