After Mikel Arteta’s generous Arsenal invite, Jack Wilshere has confirmed he plans to hold talks with his former club soon.

Jack Wilshere plans to hold talks with Arsenal ‘over the next couple of days’ after Mikel Arteta told him the door is always open at the Emirates.

At 29, an age where most footballers are at their peak, Wilshere is without a club. The midfielder left Bournemouth in the summer once his contract expired, and he has struggled to find a new employer. He has mostly been training on his own to stay fit, although he briefly trained with Serie B side Como.

Sadly, the Italian second division announced that Wilshere could not register to play professionally in Italy due to his non-EU passport.

Arteta’s invite

Upon learning of Wilshere’s setbacks, Arteta invited his former teammate to train with Arsenal so he could continue working on his fitness.

“He is someone that I know who I shared the dressing room with, someone who is so loved around the club with every person here and our doors are always open,” said the Gunners boss last week.

Wilshere’s response to the offer

The former England international, who confessed to regretting his Arsenal exit back in 2018, told Sky Sports: “I spent the majority of my life in that club, I gave a lot to that club.

“To hear the manager – who I played with, who I had a good relationship with, I really enjoyed playing with him, sharing the dressing room with him – to hear him come out and say the door is always open is nice.”

“It can only help me,” Wilshere added.

“Being around good players, training with world-class players and as well just being in a team environment is something I’m interested in. I’m sure that I’ll have a conversation with someone at the club over the next couple of days.”
