Vincenzo Grifo netted his first international goals and aided Italy to continue their 20 games unbeaten spell. The Azzurri beat Estonia by 4-0 at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Wednesday night in an exciting tussle. Italy now has 15 wins in their last 20 fixtures since the 1-0 Nations League defeat to Portugal in September 2018.
The hosts did not take long to show prowess over the game. Early in the 14th minute, Grifo marked his maiden goal against Estonia. The Freiburg attacker played his fourth game for Italy and made it memorable with his brace. The first one was a half-volley executed gracefully by Grifo from a set up by his teammate Kevin Lasagna. His second goal, however, was a thumping spot-kick from 12 yards past Estonia stopper Marko Meerits.
Italy displayed complete dominance during both halves. On the 27th minute mark, Bernardeschi cut in from the right flank to blast it in the bottom corner with his left foot. It was the Juventus man’s first international goal since October 2019.
Finally, Riccardo Orsolini ended things late in the second half with his penalty kick.
Estonia could not match their mighty opponents in this one-sided fixture. Karel Voolaid’s side failed to register a single attempt on target and Salvatore Sirigu probably had the best night on Wednesday. In addition, in the absence of Roberto Mancini, who tested positive for the COVID19, Italy managed to grab the win with ease.
