Mikel Arteta says Arsenal must be at their best if they are to stand a chance against West Ham at the weekend.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will turn their attention to domestic action when they travel to the Olympic stadium on Sunday to take on West Ham.

The Gunners go into that fixture off the back of a disappointing loss to Olympiacos. It was one thing to lose but the manner of that loss was rather questionable. Arsenal were nowhere close to their known standards in that game, such that Leno was highly critical of the team following the defeat.

Taking on West Ham won’t come any easier for the Gunners either. The Hammers are up there as one of the most in-form Premier League sides in 2021. Since the start of the year, they have only lost three times and those defeats came against respectable names in Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Going into this tie, West Ham are currently seven points above Arsenal and Arteta has called on his side to bounce back from their woeful display on Thursday.

“Basically we have to maintain the standards that we set, particularly when we are in possession of the ball” Arteta said to the club’s website.

“We had too many situations [against Olympiacos] where we didn’t discriminate or make the right decision and then execution-wise we weren’t at our best.”

“We know we will have a really tough game [on Sunday], they’ve been in great form, they’ve been really consistent, they know really well what to do and how to hurt opponents.”

“I know David really well and I am sure he will prepare the match so it is a really difficult game for us.”
