Andrea Pirlo was delighted to see Juventus reach another final in just his first season in charge at the club.

Pirlo says he already had the Coppa Italia final in mind right from the very moment he was appointed as Juventus manager.

A goalless draw in Turin was enough to see Juve advance to yet another final this season, having won the first leg 2-1 at San Siro.

Just last month, Pirlo claimed his first piece of silverware for Juventus as they beat Napoli to lift the Supercoppa title.

Another title is in sight, and the Italian manager says he had hoped for it all to happen.

“I hoped so, as a debutant it was my plan to win a Supercoppa, to reach the Final of the Coppa Italia and the last 16 of the Champions League,” he told Rai1 after the match.

“As a player, it was easier, it ended after the game. As a coach, you have to think about the next game immediately, you have to think for 30 different heads.”

“But we haven’t achieved anything yet, now we’ll rest and prepare for Saturday’s match.”

Juventus kept the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez at bay, and Pirlo was quick to hail his resolute backline.

“I have always said that I’m lucky to have four very good center-backs,” he continued.

“They are adapting to our way of defending and are improving.”

“Not only Giorgio’s [Chiellini] return, the others are doing very well and I’m happy about this.”
