Injuries are coming in thick and fast for Liverpool, and Joel Matip is now the latest Reds player to have suffered a setback.
Joel Matip suffered a back injury in his side’s 1-1 draw against Fulham to further worsen the injury woes for the Reds.
The 29-year-old had to be taken off at half-time at Craven Cottage and was replaced with Takumi Minamino. As a result, Liverpool now have no fit senior center-backs.
Liverpool are without a host of players, especially with regards to defenders. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain out for a while having suffered long-term injuries.
Liverpool now face an anxious wait and would be hoping Matip won’t be ruled out for too long.
Fabinho has frequently been filling in at center-back this season and Jordan Henderson partnered him at the heart of the defense for the second half.
Liverpool have youngsters Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at their disposal but are lacking experienced options at center-back.
It remains to be seen how serious the injury is but Matip could likely miss the Reds’ top of the table clash against Tottenham on Wednesday.
