Zidane responded to critics who put his Real Madrid success as a manager down to good fortune.

Zinedine Zidane has acknowledged he is fortunate to manage Real Madrid but refuted suggestions this doesn’t make him a good coach.

Zidane is already one of the most successful managers in football history. His record speaks for itself. A staggering 11 trophies have come his way since first taking charge of Real Madrid in January 2016. These include three successive Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018 and two La Liga titles.

During his tenure, however, some have wondered whether the Frenchman’s success was down to his coaching abilities or the good fortune of starting out at a big club.

Although the 48-year-old has proved his money’s worth this season. Not only has he led an aging Real Madrid squad into the Champions League semi-finals, but he’s taken the club to within a point off the top of La Liga.

“Am I lucky? Yes, to be here at this great club,” said Zidane in response to whether his success is down to good fortune as per Marca.

“I don’t think I’m a disaster of a coach. I’m not the best either, for sure.

“You might not always do things well, but the important thing is to have passion. Then it can go well or go badly. It’s important to give 100 percent every day and I do that, but especially my players.

“There’s a lot of talk here, but that won’t change.”

Zidane and Real Madrid take a short trip to city rivals Getafe for their next La Liga match on Sunday night.
