Jose Mourinho has reportedly rebuffed the prospect of welcoming Ivan Perisic to Tottenham as part of a swap deal involving Tanguy Ndombele’s move to Inter Milan.

Ndombele has endured an utterly underwhelming maiden season in the Premier League. Tottenham’s record signing frequently struggled with form and fitness.

After tumbling down Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, the French midfielder was expected to move on in the summer. Inter Milan, among very few clubs, have registered an interest in the ex-Lyon man.

Spurs remain keen on shipping out Ndombele, but a lack of suitors is throwing a spanner in the works on their plans.

With Inter the only side to harbor a genuine interest in the 23-year-old, Tottenham can’t count on a bidding war to help recoup the £63million they splashed out only last summer.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri hoped to exploit Mourinho’s long-term admiration for Perisic to get a deal for the midfielder over the line.

As per La Reppublica, Inter pitched Tottenham with the idea of swapping Perisic for Ndombele only to see their offer knocked back by the Premier League side.

Despite showing appreciation for the Croat’s qualities, Mourinho prefers a straight cash sale for the Spurs flop to raise funds for his recruitment campaign.

Perisic’s future has been thrown into a corridor of uncertainty after Bayern Munich opted against taking an option to buy him permanently.

The 31-year-old winger spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Allianz Arena, helping the Bavarians lift the Champions League, Bundesliga, and DFB Pokal titles.

After seeing his attempts to secure Ndombele’s signature fall flat, Antonio Conte has switched his attention towards Barcelona’s Arturo Vidal.
