The new Nerazzurri captain will wear the armband in the upcoming Milan derby.

Inter have reportedly stripped Milan Skriniar of captaincy after his decision to leave the club.

Having rejected Inter’s contract offers, Skriniar has decided to join Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent next summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the decision has convinced Inter to select a new captain. The Sky Sports journalist claims PSG offered €10m to sign Skriniar this winter, but the Serie A giants rejected the proposal.

The 27-year-old defender received a red card against Empoli last week, missing his side’s upcoming derby against Milan. It seems the club will unveil their new captain at San Siro this weekend.

According to Libero, Lautaro Martinez will wear Inter’s captain armband ahead of Skriniar from now on.

Since joining the Nerazzurri from Racing Club in 2018, Martinez has become a cornerstone of Inter’s attacking line. This season, the World Cup winner has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in his 20 Serie A matches for his side.

Martinez will lead Inter to the Milan derby on Sunday, less than three weeks after a 3-0 win over their city rivals in the Supercoppa final.

The Nerazzurri sit second in the Serie A table, 13 points behind league leaders Napoli.
