Inter Milan owner, Steven Zhang finally opened up about the possibility of signing Lionel Messi a few weeks back. It was never in his plans.
When Lionel Messi made public that he wanted to leave FC Barcelona, Inter Milan was one of the clubs that everybody pointed at. This is due to owner Steven Zhang, who is a self-made billionaire and has the power to sign any player he wants.
Journalists in Italy started going crazy about the prospect of watching the Ronaldo vs Messi rivalry move to Serie A. However, we now know that this was always a pipe dream. Zhang recently spoke to Corriere della Sera about the real chances Inter had to sign the Argentine star.
We were not that surprised to find out that he was never in the plans. Although watching him in Italian football would’ve been amazing, Zhang has always been a pragmatic man and Messi’s arrival didn’t compute inside his head.
The problem was Messi’s transfer expenses.
The Inter owner revealed how his club currently operates and the challenges they have in order to become successful once again.
“Such an investment cannot be part of our project. At least not right now,” Zhang told the newspaper. “Innovation, planning, constant growth, economic stability are our cornerstones. “Following this path, which involves planning in the long term, we will arrive at the desired results and goals, we will bring Inter back to the national and international level.”
“This plan is aimed at a program of constant growth for the company and the team. Football is experiencing a very delicate, turbulent moment at the international level, this attitude of prudence will not only concern this market session but must also be respected in the future.”
“Everyone at Inter is aiming for victory, this aspiration is part of our mission. Before we talk about work, well I’ve never seen someone who works so hard, with such intensity, as Conte does. This feature unites us. So does the attention to detail. You see, I follow a principle.”
