Inter Miami owner 'optimistic' over signing out-of-contract Messi

With the Barcelona living legend currently on their wishlist, the MLS franchise hope to continue their approach of luring in some of the biggest names in world football.

Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas is “optimistic Lionel Messi will play in an Inter Miami shirt” in the future.

Messi’s future remains a subject of intense speculations as he is yet to sign a contract extension with Barcelona despite only nearly half a month remaining on his current deal with the club.

There have been reports, however, the record six-time Ballon d’Or winner is close to renewing for the next two seasons at Camp Nou. The new deal, as the rumors suggest, will include a provision for him to eventually join David Beckham’s side.

Inter added some high-profile players in the shape of Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain to their ranks recently, and the club owner suggests Messi could be next.

Leo Messi’s new contract with Barcelona is for the next ten years (2021-2031):

Mas told the Miami Herald: “David and I have been working really hard, we have aspirations of bringing the best players here and Leo Messi is a generational player, arguably the best player of all time.

“I am optimistic Messi will play in an Inter Miami shirt because I think it will complete the legacy of the greatest player in our generation and will meet with the ambitions of the owners of Inter Miami to build a world-class team.”
