The Inter Miami superstar suffered an injury while playing for Argentina earlier this week.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has offered a fitness update on Lionel Messi ahead of his side’s upcoming match against Bolivia.
Messi scored a stunning free-kick to secure Albiceleste’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador on Thursday. However, he had to limp off the pitch in the 88th minute, with Scaloni later confirming the 35-year-old couldn’t finish the game due to a fitness issue.
In Messi’s absence, Inter Miami clinched a crucial victory over Sporting Kansas City this weekend. However, it seems the MLS side don’t need to be too concerned over the Argentine’s injury.
“Messi is going to travel to Bolivia,” Scaloni told reporters when asked whether Messi will play in the upcoming World Cup qualifier.
“Today he trained differently, but there are still two days left until the game and we will make the decision tomorrow whether he plays or not. The team is going to be similar to the one that played against Ecuador.”
Messi’s arrival has turned the season around for Inter Miami as they now push to secure a place in the MLS playoffs. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is expected to join the club ahead of their clash against Atlanta United next Saturday.
