The Nerazzurri have called off their efforts to sign Lukaku this summer.

Lautaro Martinez has opened up on Romelu Lukaku’s cancelled return to Inter.

Lukaku ended his loan deal at Inter earlier this summer, with the club hoping to sign him on a permanent deal ahead of the next season.

However, the Belgian star’s reported contact with Juventus convinced Inter to abandon their negotiations with Chelsea. Having previously vowed never to join another Italian side, Lukaku has faced widespread backlash from Inter fans in recent weeks.

“I was disappointed, it’s the truth,” Martinez told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I also tried to call him in those days of chaos, he never answered me, the same he did with my other teammates.

“After so many years together, after so many things lived together, I was disappointed. Thankfully, it’s his choice. I wish him the best. But I didn’t expect this attitude.”

Chelsea have left Lukaku out of their pre-season squad as they reportedly hope to sell him for at least £40m. Interest from Juventus have cooled off in recent days, with the club struggling to raise funds through player sales. The Bianconeri are keen to sell Dusan Vlahovic, but they are yet to receive a formal offer for the Serbia international.

On the other hand, a move to Saudi Arabia is still on the cards for Lukaku. The former Inter striker reportedly rejected an offer from Al Hilal before his negotiations with Juventus were publicized.
