The Nerazzurri have the option to make the Belgian star’s move permanent next summer.

Inter have reportedly decided to enter negotiations on Romelu Lukaku’s future with Chelsea.

The Belgian star failed to impress after his £98 million transfer to Chelsea and decided to return to Inter on a loan deal last summer.

Fitness issues prevented Lukaku from finding his rhythm at the beginning of the season. However, he has shown signs of improvement since after the World Cup.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 29-year-old’s performances have convinced Inter to keep him at the club.

However, the Nerazzurri are reportedly not planning to make Lukaku’s move permanent yet. Instead, the Italian giants hope Chelsea will extend the loan contract for another season.

Inter paid £7m plus £2m in add-ons for Lukaku’s season-long loan deal in April. Now they hope to secure the striker’s stay for another season at half that price.

Lukaku has publicly admitted that he has no desire to return to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s massive spending on their attacking line in January also showed the Belgian is not in the club’s future plans.

Inter have made a strong start to 2023, climbing to the second spot on the Serie A table. Let’s see if Lukaku can rediscover his spark by playing as part of Nerazzurri’s in-form attacking line.
