The Belgian striker was allegedly targeted with racist chants during Derby d’Italia.
Romelu Lukaku has called on Serie A to take action after allegedly suffering racial abuse during Inter’s 1-1 Coppa Italia draw with Juventus.
The experienced striker scored a late equalizer for the Nerazzurri as they escaped the defeat at the Allianz Stadium. His celebration against Juventus fans convinced the referee to book him, and he received another yellow card after the full-time whistle.
Juan Cuadrado and Samir Handanovic also received straight red cards from the referee as the tussle continued post-match.
Lukaku took to Instagram to express his frustration after the game.
“History repeats,” he wrote on Instagram. “[I’ve] been through it in 2019 and [now in] 2023 again.
“I hope the league really take actions for real this time because this beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone.
“Thank you for the supportive messages. F*** racism.”
Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Mario Balotelli are some of the footballers that have shown support for Lukaku.
“We’ll always have your back Rom! F*** Racism!” Jerome Boateng tweeted.
Lukaku has enjoyed significant form improvement in recent weeks while regaining his full fitness. He scored four goals in Belgium’s matches against Sweden and Germany before returning to action for Inter.
The Nerazzurri will take on Salernitana on Friday before meeting Benfica in the Champions League four days later.
