The Citiznes have already started their search for a new left-back.

Manchester City scouts are reportedly eyeing Inter’s Federico Dimarco as they search for a new left-back.

Dimarco has been in excellent form during the 2022/23 season, keeping Robin Gosens out of the starting XI. The Italian international’s delivery of deadly crosses and his ability to drop into central midfield positions make him an attractive prospect for City.

According to 90min, Dimarco’s performances have “thoroughly impressed” City scouts.

Joao Cancelo, currently on loan to Bayern Munich, is expected to leave City on a permanent deal. The Bavarians are looking to negotiate a reduction from their €70m option to buy, but other clubs are also monitoring the situation. Chelsea and Real Madrid are among those who have expressed an interest in Cancelo, but he reportedly prefers to stay in Munich.

Dimarco is one of the players Inter would consider selling this summer after being told by owners that funds need to be raised through departures. The Serie A giants will most likely ask for a fee of around £40m. However, Inter would prefer not to sell the left-back and may prioritize other sales, including goalkeeper Andre Onana. The keeper has attracted interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

City is looking to strengthen its left-back position after Benjamin Mendy’s injury struggles and his subsequent release. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo have filled the position this season, but neither is a natural left-back.

Dimarco has made 18 Serie A appearances for Inter this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist. The 24-year-old has been with the Italian club since 2018, previously having loan spells at Sion, Parma, and Hellas Verona.
