The Belgian striker is racing against time to recover before the tournament.

Simone Inzaghi has revealed Romelu Lukaku will not play for Inter before World Cup.

Lukaku has played only five games for the Nerazzurri since returning to the club in the summer.

The Belgian star returned to action in Inter’s clash against Viktoria Plzen two weeks ago. However, he picked up another knock, which has cast doubt over his World Cup chances.

Speaking ahead of Inter’s upcoming match against Juventus, Inzaghi said: “We will be without him, without [Danilo] D’Ambrosio and with [Alessandro] Bastoni to evaluate because he had a fever.

“It is normal for a coach to want to have all his weapons, but we know that playing so much there are difficulties in organising with all the team.

“Lukaku will do another test next week; unlike last time, I can say that I don’t think he will be there for the last game.

“I’m sorry, because he worked so hard to be there. We will wait for him after the break, because we know he can give us a great hand.”

Belgium hope to have their star striker as soon as possible, given their difficult group in the World Cup.

The Red Devils will compete against Canada, Croatia, and Morocco in Group F of the competition.
