A summer switch saw Onana becoming United’s No.1 goalkeeper.
Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has reflected on the financial profit of selling Andre Onana to Manchester United.
United decided against extending David de Gea, releasing the Spaniard as a free agent in July. Onana, who had worked under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, quickly became the club’s main candidate for the No.1 spot.
A €51m (£43.9m) move marked a significant financial gain for Inter, who signed the Cameroon international on a free transfer a year later.
“For sure it was great chapter for Onana and for us. It was also successfull deal to sign him for free and sell for that money”, Marotta told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Asked Onana’s possible return to Inter in the future, he added: “I can’t predict the future but in football anything can happen.”
Onana has come under fire for his inconsistent display for United in recent weeks. The 27-year-old has conceded 19 goals in his first 11 appearances for the Red Devils, keeping three clean sheets.
Onana has joined Cameroon for their matches against Russia and Senegal, hoping to regain his best form before returning to United after the international break. Ten Hag’s men will play their next Premier League match on October 21 against Sheffield United.
