Milan came back from behind to clinch a crucial victory in Derby della Madonnina.
Milan defeated Inter 2-1 in their Serie A game on Saturday. The Rossoneri closed the gap on top of the table to one point by pulling off a sensational comeback.
A three-minute comeback!
Inter started off as the dominant side, creating several serious chances in the first thirty minutes. Following a few great saves from Mike Maignan, the hosts finally broke the deadlock through Ivan Perisic in the 38th minute.
A much-improved Milan side increased the pressure on Inter’s backline as soon as the second period started. The hosts did an excellent job of keeping their opponents at bay. However, a goal from Olivier Giroud changed the course of the game in the 75th minute.
Following a brilliant run from Sandro Tonalli, Inter defenders deflected Brahim Diaz’s shot from behind the box. But Giroud was in the perfect spot to nod the ball in from the far post to make it 1-1.
Only three minutes later, Milan completed their comeback through Giroud’s second goal. The French striker latched onto the ball after a precise pass from Davide Calabria. He then curled a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 for Milan.
Inter pushed hard to get the equalizer during the final ten minutes, but Milan maintained their defensive consistency. Theo Hernandez’s red card in the 95th minute was the last key event of the tense derby.
The Rossoneri are now only one point behind Inter on top of the Serie A table, with the reigning champions having a game at hand. Inter will face Roma in the quarter-finals of the Copa Italia on Tuesday while Milan host Lazio in the same competition a day later.
