The Blaugrana’s preparations for the upcoming Copa del Rey clash against Sevilla may have received a huge, and very timely, boost.

Pedri made a surprise return to training from injury on Tuesday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and could be available to face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.

The 18-year-old midfielder sustained a calf injury in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Sevilla in La Liga. Ronald Koeman replaced him with Ilaix Moriba during the last 20 minutes of the match after he went down and could not continue.

Pedri returned to the Barcelona team hotel on crutches later that day, with reports stating a two to three-week absence was likely at the time.

But the former Las Palmas star made a surprise return to group training on Tuesday morning. According to Mundo Deportivo, he could even be available to face Sevilla in the second leg of the club’s Copa del Rey semi-final tie on Wednesday.

Blaugrana coach Koeman is expected to announce his squad on the morning of that match after one last training session. If Pedri doesn’t make the cut, he’ll target Saturday’s La Liga trip to Osasuna for his comeback instead.

But Uruguayan center-back Ronald Araujo is a serious doubt after failing to attend training after suffering a relapse from his ankle injury last weekend.

Barcelona welcome Sevilla to Camp Nou in need of a big victory to overturn a 2-0 aggregate deficit in their semi-final tie.
