Ciro Immobile feels honored to be mentioned alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, and Luis Suarez.

Ciro Immobile was the standout performer for Lazio, and arguably even in all of Serie A, in the 2019/20 season.

The Italian marksman recorded his personal best tally of his career as he found the back of the net 39 times across 44 matches in all competitions.

36 of those goals came in Serie A, and with those numbers better than that of every other striker across the top five leagues in Europe, he picked up the last season’s European Golden Boot.

Another striker who enjoyed an impressive 2019/20 was Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, who scored 55 goals in just 47 matches across the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal to help his side win each of the three competitions.

Lewandowski was widely expected to win the 2020 Ballon d’Or before it got canceled in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and Immobile tends to agree with the general consensus.

“Lewandowski has always been a role model for me. If I could vote for the Ballon d’Or, I would give him my vote,” Immobile told German publication Sport Bild.

“To win the Gold Boot makes me very proud. When it comes to the best No9 in the world, the names Lewandowski, [Luis] Suarez, or [Karim] Benzema are always mentioned. To be named together with them and to have scored more goals than these forwards is incredible.”
