The Bayern Munich star can’t believe Maguire has held on to United’s armband after the arrival of the Portuguese superstar.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s move back to Manchester United has generated doubts around Harry Maguire’s captaincy at the club. While some observers believe the England star should hold on to the armband, others see Ronaldo as a better leader for the team.
Maguire has attracted heavy criticism for his unimpressive performances in United’s recent games. However, despite being booed by England fans during the international break, he has retained his place in United’s lineup as well as his role as the Red Devils captain.
During a live stream on Twitch, Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies backed Ronaldo to wear United’s armband ahead of his English teammate.
“Can you guys imagine [that] you’re Ronaldo, right?” Davies said. “One of the greatest players ever, in the 21st century.
“Harry Maguire is your captain. You refer to him as captain – I don’t know what he says to him.”
He added: “I’m not dissing Harry Maguire, but Ronaldo should get the armband, man.”
According to a report from Daily Mirror, the power struggle has continued in United’s dressing room in recent months. The English outlet claims Maguire and Ronaldo are finding it difficult to get along, with each of them having the support of a group of United players.
Following their disappointing display against Everton on Saturday, the Red Devils must face Norwich City in their next league game next week.
