The Citizens are among the top candidates to secure Erling Haaland’s signature next summer.

Having spent an incredible spell at Borussia Dortmund, Erling Haaland has attracted interest from almost every elite club across Europe. The Norwegian star will most likely leave the Black and Yellows next summer, with a transfer race already being underway over his next destination.

Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are Haaland’s three main suitors. However, the Citizens have appeared to have gotten ahead of their opponents in recent weeks.

Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who is currently on international duty with Germany, endorses City’s potential move for the 21-year-old.

He said: “It’s a long time ago that we played with a classical striker. I think he is a player with big qualities who fits into every team.

“I think Haaland and Guardiola would work at Manchester City. Haaland has the quality for every top team.”

City usually play with an attacking midfielder in front of their usual midfield unit. Adding a classic striker like Haaland will force Pep Guardiola to implement a more direct approach in his attacking line.

Asked about his side’s interest in Haaland, the Spaniard recently said: “Right now, listen, it’s impossible that I am going to talk about some guy who is not here. He’s a Dortmund player and we’ve an incredible run ahead of us.”
