The Cristiano Ronaldo vs Cola-Cola saga took another twist as Swedish retailer Ikea launched a new water bottle in CR7’s honor.
Ikea has introduced a supposed new line of reusable water bottles named ‘Cristiano’ in honor of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
A week has already passed since Cristiano Ronaldo removed two Coke bottles out of his sight in a press conference, lifted a bottle of water in the air, and said to onlookers: “agua” (water in English).
Nobody could’ve predicted what came next.
Coca-Cola went on to lose $4 billion in market value, some players followed Ronaldo’s example, others mocked it, and UEFA had to step in with a warning for teams to obey rules regarding Euro 2020’s commercial partner.
Portugal’s own supporters even made a banner for Ronaldo that read: “Portugal. Water. Coca-Cola. In that order.”
And to cap it off, Ikea’s marketing team has introduced a ‘Cristiano’ water bottle for just $1.99 in this witty social media post.
The Swedish retailer made sure to label the bottle ‘for water only’ in support of Ronaldo’s disdain towards high-sugar beverages.
“Drink water, sustainably,” Ikea posted on Instagram.
