Out of contract at the end of the season, the veteran striker is said to have his heart set on returning to his native South America.

Odion Ighalo wants Edinson Cavani to stay at Manchester United amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

Cavani joined Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer on a one-year contract with an option of extending his stay by a further year.

The Uruguayan has become an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s setup, offering the team a different dimension in attack and producing a handful of match-winning performances.

However, keeping hold of the 34-year-old might be a tricky task for the Red Devils as the striker is reportedly intent on joining Boca Juniors, with a few reports even claiming the transfer is all but confirmed.

A man who saw very limited opportunities during his short stint at Old Trafford has now offered Cavani advice over his Manchester United future.

Ighalo told Sky Sports: “Every player has a different ambition, different needs, and needs to decide what they have to do.

“He’s a good player and a good striker, there’s no doubt about that and if the opportunity comes up to go somewhere else, then that’s fine.

“But for me – this is the team I have supported from being a child so I would always take the option of staying.

“Whatever decision he makes though, I wish him all the best and good luck to him.
