Amid recent talk of a Serie A return, Mauro Icardi has dropped a hint on his future with French giants PSG.
Mauro Icardi insists he is happy at PSG, pouring cold water on talks of an exit from the French capital.
According to reports in Italy, the former Inter captain is a long-time Juventus target. The Bianconeri reportedly made a move in for the Argentine in their bid to sign a striker last summer. Elsewhere, Roma are also considering signing him in the upcoming summer window.
Icardi had joined PSG on loan with an option to buy in 2019 and the Ligue 1 giants made his move permanent in 2020.
Reflecting on his permanent move to join PSG, Icardi says he is happy and dropped a hint at a potential long-term stay at the club.
He said to the club’s website: “When I arrived on loan, I did all I could to be able to make a difference and help the team with my goals. It was a good year. So I was very happy the club decided to take up the option on me and to propose to me to continue together for the next four years. For me, it was an honour and a source of pride, as I said on the first day I arrived in Paris. I feel good here, in a great team that wins trophies. That’s what a player looks for.”
“My attitude is the same as last season. Last year, we had a great season, and I hope that in the years to come we can keep improving and win trophies.”
Unlike other seasons, PSG would have to push hard for the Ligue 1 title this time around. Les Parisiens currently lead the way but only four points separate them and fourth-placed Monaco. Speaking on a tense title race, Icardi inists PSG will keep the right attitude needed to defend their crown.
He added: “It’s clear that every game is and will be difficult. We know that we’re a strong team, a team with undisputed technical qualities, but motivation always has to be at 100% in order to win. It’s a great challenge to have strong teams who are battling with us for the title. We’re in it and we’ll battle with those teams until the last minute. We are focusing on ourselves, we know that winning matches will enable us to keep going like last year. The best preparation is to win each game. Mentally, physically, that’s what gives you the confidence to keep winning, winning and winning.”
